New law is about benefiting clients in innovative ways, embracing technology and focusing on process. It is a concept that is growing and that all firms should be considering as part of their strategies. It is a way to add value to the firm and find an additional source of revenue. This is not a substitute for the core practice of a law firm however, rather it is a different approach that allows firms to focus on some areas of the practice and do them well without impacting their main area of legal work.

The idea of law new is not necessarily easy to define. It can mean anything from working with underserved communities to coming up with a strategy that has not been part of the mainstream in the past. This can also include a new method for delivering legal services or creating a structure for practicing that differs from the traditional law firm.

A more basic and underlying issue, though, is that it will be difficult to create change in the legal academy until it changes its conception of what law is. The fact is that legal scholars, like everyone else, have their own biases and preconceived notions about what makes a good legal argument. This is not just a problem of the present moment; it is a fundamental challenge to the development of legal scholarship in general.

This bill would require City agencies to provide notice of student loan forgiveness programs to employees and job applicants. It would also amend existing law to align the City’s data breach notification laws with requirements in New York’s SHIELD Act. This bill is in response to a series of lawsuits alleging that the City has failed to adequately protect public information, including private identifying information, stored on its IT systems.
