The word entertaiment has evolved to mean anything from a personal selection from the enormous catalogue of available entertainment, to banquets adapted to two or more; to performances intended for thousands. But what appears to be entertainment for one group may have a serious purpose, as in the case of ceremonies, religious festivals or even satire. The ability of entertainment to cross over many media, has given it tremendous longevity and enduring appeal. This issue explores this amazing diversity.
