A business is an organisation that exchanges goods or services for money. Businesses can be privately or publicly owned. If they return profit to their owners, they are known as for-profit businesses; if they invest profits back into the business or into other activities such as research and development, they are known as not-for-profit businesses. Many businesses operate internationally. A business can be large or small and can operate in many industries. Examples of industries include agriculture, manufacturing, retailing and service provision. A business may also be involved in investing, financing and/or lending to other businesses.

Business news is a specific type of journalism that reports on and analyzes commercial, economic and financial events and conditions. Business news can be found in newspapers, magazines, radio, television and online. It can be broad in scope, reporting on the overall economy, or narrow in focus, examining specific sectors of the economy such as agriculture, finance and banking.

The word “business” can also be used in a more general sense to describe the activity of making a living, or the act of carrying on any trade, profession, or work. This use of the word has become commonplace, with the business world being characterised by a spirit of enterprise, competition and hard work. The phrase “minding one’s own business” has also come to mean not engaging in private affairs that might interfere with ones ability to carry out work-related tasks.

While it is possible to find business-related news in most major newspapers and magazines, the best source of up-to-date business information is arguably the Internet. A number of websites and blogs provide regular updates on the latest business news, often with commentary and analysis.
